On Solid Ground
August 6, 2025
Nestled in the serene hills of Palawela, Ratnapura, Gem Mountain Resort is steadily taking shape—one rock, one road, and one retaining wall at a time. The past few months have been marked by tangible progress as we’ve worked hard to shape not only the landscape but also the guest experience we envision for this unique getaway.
Road Construction Progress at Gem Mountain Resort
January: Road Construction Begins
Starting in the second week of January, we completed over 30 meters of road construction. By the third week, we began laying 6×9 rubble on the center and sides of the road using material processed by our own excavators.
As part of the road preparation, large rocks were cleared from the path, crushed, and reused as base material, allowing us to minimize waste and reduce material costs.
To support this work, we also purchased and transported more than 50 cubic meters of 6×9 rubble to the site.
February: Stabilizing the Road Surface
In February, we completed the rubble layer on the middle and right side of the road. The left side was left unfinished temporarily to avoid potential damage during the ongoing unloading of construction materials.
March: Retaining Wall and Final Rubble Layer
In March, construction of the retaining wall began, which is a key structural element for stabilizing the road and surrounding terrain.
While the contractor focused on the wall, our internal team completed the rubble laying on the left side of the road, bringing this phase of the roadwork to completion.
Next Steps
These infrastructure improvements are essential to the safe and efficient development of the resort. The progress achieved over the first quarter of the year sets a strong foundation for the next stages of construction.
We’ll continue to provide updates as work advances at Gem Mountain Resort.
